“Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me; they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion.
But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog! Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!” — Psalm 22

Here’s to our modern day gladiators, the selfless heroes of rodeo who risk life and limb to protect cowboys in the arena, who jump onto the back of a spinning bull to free a rider’s hand from his rope, who get hooked and thrown sky-high so the rider doesn’t. And here’s to two of the best bullfighters to ever do it, Cody Webster and Dusty Tuckness. Watching them go to work battling the biggest and baddest bulls is always one of my favorite parts of a rodeo! This new piece captures an intense moment at the 2024 NFR where they faced down Barnes PRCA Rodeo's "019 Sullivan."
